Ive come across a few incidents this last week of friends / colleagues having their computer infected by a virus. Although the cause of this was down to opening links via messages within facebook, since they knew the people the links came from, they trusted them..

A similar thing happened (or may still be) with MSN Messenger a while back, where your account would be hijacked and send messages to all your contacts with a virus.

The worst case scenario required a complete format and re-install of windows, almost losing everything on their computer..

With this and the recent catastrophe caused by McAfee now is a good a time as any to consider having some form of backup system in place where the files are not kept on the same PC.

Either by backing up to a network / shared hard drive, USB stick or using something like iDrive for online backups (which is for 2gb space).
